Otley's candidates for the 2010 General Election - how are they doing online?

Until the date of the General Election is actually announced, technically there are no candidates and no-one who plans to stand for election should call themselves one.

Nonetheless, with the election required to fall before June 3rd we know already who the candidates for the main parties are so let's have a quick glance at who they are. Since Otleypeople is a social media website, I'm also going to take a look at how they're doing at keeping up to date on their blogs, websites and Twitter.

First, and with the longest odds at 6/1 against, is Labour PPC Judith Blake. Judith blogs here and Tweets here (though at time of writing she hadn't updated either since Feb 6th).

For the Conservatives, and currently at 7/4, is Julia Mulligan. Julia and the local party have a website here; she doesn't seem to blog, and her Twitter feed was last updated last October.

Finally, the bookies' current favourite at 4/6 on is the current MP Greg Mullholland. You can see lots about Greg at Theyworkforyou; he has a website here; and he tweeted about an hour ago.

So a clear win for the LibDems so far on the social media front - I'll be keeping an eye on all the PPCs in the run up to the election though and letting you know if they start tweeting or blogging a bit more actively.

I would like to see a 'question time' format debate, here online at Otley People. It would be great to get the candidates to answer questions from regular users of this site.

I am sure an online hustings would help bring out key issues in the constituency and give the candidates a chance to get their views across.

I for one would like to know how Otley can be promoted better to tourists and businesses alike.
