Rising to the challenge

Black Sheep Otley Folk Festival to be held from 16 September to 19 September is an annual milestone event for Otley and surrounding towns and villages.

Last year the festival goers threw a challenge to the Chef of Otley Balti House of Bondgate to design a “Festival Platter” to commemorate 2010 festival. The platter will combine suggestions provided by festival goers and the traditions of folk music and dance in Bengal. It will have 3 innovative dishes with 2 sundry items served as one large platter. In Bengal this type of platter is offered to  folk musicians, singers and dancers as a token of respect and appreciation by the village head.

In Otley, for first time an unique presentation of food will be available to the festival goers, visitors to Otley and local people to enjoy during the festival weekend. This is intended to make their festival weekend very enjoyable and memorable.

Sid Ahmed, proprietor of the Balti House commented “ It is our great pleasure to get involved in making the festival more attractive to visitors. The platter brings back my childhood memory of folk music and dance that used to be held in my village in Bengal. I hope everyone will come and enjoy our unique food”.
