In 2009 the average price of a detached house in Otley was £293,000, down significantly on the 2008 average of £345,000 and the lowest since 2002. The average sales price across all properties (detached, terrace, flats etc) was £190,000 - significantly higher than the regional average for Yorkshire at the end of 2009 (pdf) of £161,000 but less than the national average £219,000.

That's according to Findaproperty's house price analysis tool, which records property transactions at the postcode and even street level across the UK going back to 1999.

For example, in 2009 there were three houses sold on Cambridge Drive - the street just down the road from All Saints first school on Lisker Drive, where I lived until 1989 - for an average of £142,000. By contrast on St David's Road (where I spent the years up to 1994, and where my parents still hang their various hats) four houses changed hands in the year averaging £187,000.

Just down the road in Ilkely a detached house would have set you back £438,000 in 2009; and in Guisely the average was £253,000.
