A rare moment of sunshine at Cross Green
After last year's thrilling encounter we were all looking forward to the visit of London Scottish to Cross Green. Yesterday, Scottish arrived on time, with a number of visiting fans, but with no bagpiper; even the most musical of Otley fans were not entirely inconsolable! Otley made a few changes from the team that gained a bonus point away to Blackheath. Nelson came back in at stand-off, with Manupena moving to the centre. Twomey was...

Otley vs Launceston at Cross Green, 18/09/2010
Otley's first two league matches of the season had been close and tense affairs with the result in serious doubt right up to the final whistle. Launceston came into this match with a record of one victory and one defeat and so  we could probably expect another close encounter. Alas for Launceston, they have had 20 points deducted from them since they went into administration as a result of over-testing the legendary patience of...

On Saturday Otley supporters enjoyed what must surely be the most beautiful rugby trip in the world – up through the dale to Grassington to see Otley take on local rivals Wharfedale. Their lovely ground was packed. Anyone hoping for a seat in the stand had to arrive very early. It's a pleasure to do so as you can spend the time before kick-off absorbing the atmosphere as you look up towards Cracoe Fell and Ellbolton –...

Saturday marked the start of the "proper" rugby union season; after the pre-season friendlies, the league matches began in earnest with Otley playing hosts to Blaydon. There's always a buzz of anticipation to greet a new season and Otley's strong finish to the 2010 campaign justifies a fair degree of optimism. It's a pity there was only a very sparse crowd at Cross Green to welcome the new season in.   Only a few days...

ENGLAND U-18s 17 SOUTH AFRICA U18s 23 THE presence of Gloucester's Dan Robson and Koree Britton was not enough to extend England's three-year winning streak at under-18 international level. England scored three tries to one with wing Mark Jennings (Lymm HS and Sale Sharks) and centres Tommy Bell (Bacup and Rawtenstall GS and Sale Sharks) and Elliot Daly (Whitgift and London Wasps) touching down and Bell adding a conversion. But...
